This Self-Care Sunday I share about new hobbies and the importance of being a beginner!
Starting a new hobby and becoming a beginner can be daunting, I know for myself I value mastery and have a hard time being a beginner. That being said, in order to one day become skilled you must start as a beginner.
“You can learn new things at any time in your life if you're willing to be a beginner. If you actually learn to like being a beginner, the whole world opens up to you.”
―Barbara Sher
Understanding Mastery & Expertise
As the Dunning-Kruger Effect explains, as a beginner we often underestimate the amount of knowledge there is. We can become courageous knowing that the more we know the more we realize the amount of the unknown and it is okay.
This Diagram shows the chart to better explain this.
Starting a new hobby can often become an internal-battle as we feel the need to be at the same skill level as those around us. The truth is, we can't become skilled at something without first being a beginner.
